Electronic Travel Authorization eTA

Citizens of all nations that are excluded from needing a visa to visit Canada as well as legal permanent residents of the nations listed below (see the list of nations that are excluded from visa requirements on this page) are required to obtain an electronic travel authorization before arriving in Canada as of March 15, 2016. Acquire your eTA Canada with no fuss.
Before checking in for your journey to Canada, you must apply for an eTA if you are flying there for travel, business, or transit. Through Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), legitimate permanent residents of the United States and the United Kingdom can visit Canada for business or travel without having to apply for a visa to do so.

If you meet the following criteria, you are eligible to enter Canada with an eTA:
  • You are traveling into the country and are a national of one of the nations listed below as being visa-exempt or you are a legal permanent resident of the US with a current alien registration card (Green Card).
  • You persuade an immigration official of your country's links, such as your family, place of job, etc., to assure your return.
  • You have enough money for your stay in Canada- that much depends on how long your journey takes..

WHAT THE CANADA ETA IMPLIES

The function of an eTA

Before, people from nations including London, Australia, and New Zealand (see the full list of nations excluded from visa requirements on this page) could enter Canada without a visa at any time. However, Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) was developed and put into place as the demand for improved border security intensified. The Canadian government makes an effort to pre-screen visitors from nations that do not require visas to keep out criminals and those who are prohibited from flying.

Obtained in the country of origin

Before arriving in Canada, a person must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) in their home country. It is electronically associated with a traveler's passport.

Not Guaranteed Entry

How to acquire a Canada Entrance as it is not assured by an eTA? Travelers with eTAs may need to show customs officers on arrival in the country that they: 1) have sufficient finances to support their stay in Canada and their return journey; and 2) have convincing reasons for leaving Canada (i.e., employment, financial obligations, partners and kids, etc.).

A visitor who is refused entry to Canada is not allowed to stay and is required to go.

Who Requires and Does Not Require an eTA?

There are three types of visitors to Canada:

  1. Those who require a Canada eTA for entrance,
  2. Those who do not require a Canada eTA for entrance, and
  3. Those who can enter Canada with a visa in place of eTA.

Before taking a flight to Canada, all visitors from visa-exempt nations (see the listing of visa-exempt nations on this website) must get an electronic Travel Authorization. This includes:

  • Children
  • Travelers passing through Canada but not intending to stay there
  • People taking a private plane into Canada

An eTA is not required for Americans who enter Canada by car and for anyone with valid visas for Canada.

Non-visa-exempt nationals must get a Canada visa (different from an eTA) from their embassy or consulate in order to travel to Canada.

You Can Submit an eTA Request if...

Anyone from eligible countries, such as the USA and the UK, may apply for a Canada eTA. The eTA is granted based on a number of criteria.

  1. The visitor is from a nation that Canada and does not require a visa.
  2. The trip to Canada is for business, travel, or transit.
  3. The tour won't last more than 180 days.
  4. The candidate is not a lawbreaker.
  5. The candidate has not flouted immigration laws.
  6. The visitor has solid reasons to go back home, including work, ownership of a home, and financial resources.
  7. The visitor can convincingly prove that they have plans to go back home.
  8. The applicant's passport is authentic.
  9. The user's health is satisfactory.

Regarding Using an eTA

Before tourists depart from their home countries, they are given an eTA. At the airline desk in the nation of departure, it is checked for the first time.

Digitally Connected to a Passport

A traveler's passport and travel authorization are digitally connected. The traveler's passport is examined at the airport of departure, and this verifies that an active eTA is in existence. For this purpose, you must carry the passport whose number corresponds to the passport number on the eTA approval email.

Eligible for Up to 5 Years

An eTA may be utilized multiple times. In other words, visitors do not need to apply for a new eTA with each trip to Canada. A traveler can use it for up to five years or until their passport expires. The maximum length of a permitted visitation is often six months.

About Duration and Status of Stays

Travelers should take care to only stay in Canada for the allotted amount of time. An eTA will be lost if a visit is overstayed without a request for an extension being granted by the department of Citizenship and Immigration of Canada. For additional travel, a new eTA is required. Passports must always be acceptable for the entire period of the travel.

Short-term visitors to Canada are not permitted to change their status to a long layover in the mid of their stay. To obtain a regular visa that allows for a longer stay, they must depart Canada.

Have Valid Passport

During travel with an eTA, a passport should be valid. It is not advised to enter Canada with a passport that is about to expire or one that is valid for less than 6 months.

Because the eTA is tied to just one passport and cannot be transferred, a visitor who gets a new passport should always apply for a new one.

If an eTA is rejected

An eTA application might not always be accepted. This may occur if the candidate offers a security risk, entrance conditions have not been met, or a prior visa application has been rejected. The Canadian immigration department does not give a justification for rejecting an eTA.
